TOBOR EXPERIMENT DISCO EXPERIENCE:
DISCO MOOG EP (Bearfunk, uk)
Every now and then we get some music sent to us at Bear towers that makes the whole office stand still and say "what the *%£k is this?" We had that feeling when the first Lindstrom's came in or the Diaphanoids beautiful sounds and now we have that lovely feeling again with the music of Giorgio Sancristoforo aka Tobor Disco Experience.
Like the whole bear team Giorgio can't seem to move on from the 70's. Obsessed with the instruments of Bob Moog, Vocoders, Alan Parsons and the cult sci-fi series Space 1999 he was obviously born in the wrong decade.
Disco Moog has already been used on the rools for rules compilation earlier this year and had many beards twitching at the thought of not having this on vinyl, Shooting star is a more up-tempo affair with blissful chords, slap bass, disco handclaps and Gio's trademark vocoder. I feel loved is a personal favourite of Stevie Kotey with anthem written all over it. This awesome clavinet workout has such a good vibe about it you can't help feeling nothing but loved. It could easy be mistaken for Alan Hawkshaw super rare Bruton library track. GammaGamma is an obvious nod to the great Alan Parsons' Mamma Gamma'. Gio makes his own interpretation though and once again he uses the vocoder in such a beautiful way that you want more.
CLOUD by TROIKA DESIGN
Music by TOBOR EXPERIMENT
Description
CLOUD, a Digital Sculpture For British Airways Terminal 5
Troika was commissioned by Artwise Curators to create a signature piece for the entrance of the new British Airways luxury lounges in Heathrow Terminal 5.
In response, we created 'Cloud', a five meter long digital sculpture whose surface is covered with 4638 flip-dots that can be individually
addressed by a computer to animate the entire skin of the sculpture. Flip-dots were conventionally used in the 70s and 80s to create signs in train-stations and airports. By audibly flipping between black and silver, the flip-dots create mesmerizing waves as they chase across the surface of ‘Cloud’. Reflecting its surrounding colours, the mechanical mass is transformed into an organic form that appears to come alive, shimmering and flirting with the onlookers that pass by.
TECH STUFF DVD
(isbn edizioni + QOOB/MTV + The Box Films)
Written and directed by TOBOR EXPERIMENT
Originally featured on Italian social network QOOB.TV as a serie of short documentaryes, Tech Stuff collates all ten episodes on this DVD release. Presented with a wit that occasionally borders on Look Around You territory, Tech Stuff examines cult electronic equipment, the territory of generative music, IRCAM’s electronic music research and a whole lot more. The music itself is an unusual beast, its history more so, with tales of sex changes, KGB and the edibility of viny all uncovered.
While these documentaryes are unfinchligly fascinating, the remainder of the package is similarly rewarding.
The DVD adds an extensive (and exclusive) interview with electronic pioneer Karlheinz Stockhausen and also contains a simple
PC/MAC tool to make your own electronic music.
The already impressive package is housed in a flashy hardback book rammed with additional info and is available in a joint English/Italian language set from online stores including amazon
Bitscapes by HFR Lab (Quayola)
Coding by W.Kosma
Sound by TOBOR EXPERIMENT
Description
Made on location in Western Australia, Bitscapes is a video installation intended to explore the concept of digital reproduction and manipulation. Through the combination of natural footage and computer-generated graphics, BitScapes aims to investigate the ambiguity of realism behind a digitally recorded image. As a result of the juxtaposition produced by the three adjacent screens, the HD source material is observed as it simultaneously shows and deconstructs its “photographic skin” to finally reveal the realistic illusion of a digital image.
Bitscapes has been specially commissioned by the Sheffield based digital arts organization Lovebytes and marks the first anniversary of 'Lovebytes at Millennium Galleries' - a permanent plasma screen gallery curated by Lovebytes with the Sheffield Galleries Trust.
Exhibitions:
-Onedotzero, Worldwide
-Nemo, France
-IDAP, China
-IDAP, Japan
-Le Cube, France

audioscan: notturno (AGON 2010)
Notturno is a tale of shadows and sounds.
It's the labour of men in pitch darkness, amidst the flames of heavy industry.
It's the tale of a timeless place plunged into the same dimness dwelling in Hephaestus forge, in the alchemist lab, in the secret chamber where Zeus concealed ligthning.
An ash-grey recess seems to extend unending, down to the innermost Earth's ravines, now shaken by thunders, now clutched by the shrill wailing of Cyclopean machinery, now shrouded by flames tall as buildings.
In the night of Rubiera, men and women summon fire monsters, while the town all around sleeps. Unaware.
Beginning from the technique of "sound mapping", audioscan portrays again the spaces of mankind. This time it doesn't investigate the streets, scenery of people passing by and everyday life (cf. audioscan: milano), but the night shift in a steel mill: a place of extreme hardness, one of the most ancient and ancestral. audioscan retrieves in the streams of melted steel the metaphor of the initiated intent on forging the nature forces; but, above anything else, the bravery and resoluteness of men and women struggling in places of exceptional complexity.
While every sound is being patiently collected, the eye of a mini-camera engraves a film with Dantesque visions and oneiric apparitions, glimpses of light on the hidden soul of steel. They blend together in a movie featuring a live soundtrack and in a multimedia installation.

A film and a music performance with the lights and sounds of the steel foundry.
